XOXO

Well, I've given in. In a moment where I desperately needed distraction from reality (even if that reality is fashion design) I checked out Gossip Girl from the library. I'm now on disc 2 a week later and I'm addicted. Gossip Girl has not yet spawned the crack-fiend like addiction that Sex&theCity did when I finally got around to watching that, but it's running a close second.

With that in mind I was delighted to see Taylor Momsen, the sugary sweet little sister on Gossip Girl, featured on Garance Dore's blog today looking like a little bitty Courtney Love.

Clearly she is trying to steer away from her Upper East Side prep school look that she sports on screen. But if you are trying to steer towards it but just don't have the cash, consider one of these "It Bag" totes from Nosideup on PapernStitch.

Let's keep it at least slightly real ;)

Louvre Love

This simple screen print dress I just found on Etsy may quickly move from the "want" to the "need" category the more I'm looking at it! Perfectly whimsical yet wearable.

"la sigh..."

As you may have noticed my blog has been sorely neglected of late. School has got the best (and most mediocre) of me, and my blog has taken a back seat. But the good thing about fashion is there is always something new to perk up my spirits.

Lover the label
has released their latest lookbook online and it's totally captivating and utterly modern. The collection is titled White Moon Rising, and it's delicate moodiness captures my sentiments exactly.

Gamine

Main Entry:

"An elfish young woman. Audrey Hepburn in Roman Holiday
was the archetypal, unforgettable, adorable gamine" -philip howard

The New York based boutique OTTE has really captured this look by stocking a tightly curated selection of brands like Claudie Pierlot and Catherine Holstein. Below are some looks that caught my eye as inspiration for a modern gamine.

The Model as Muse Gala

The Costume Institute's annual Gala always turns out to show quite a wide array of fashion looks... some perfectly lovely... some so bad you're a little embarrassed for the people wearing them. Here are my top ten favorite and least favorite looks.

The Best
I'm in love with the classical drape of this John Galliano.

Dark blue Chanel FTW.

Clair Danes demonstrates her understanding of the first two rules of dressing for a night out... find a dress that flatters your shape, and find an adorable date.

Normally I'm more attracted to longer dresses at these types of events, but both Jessica Stam and Sasha Pivovarova have chosen stunning looks. I'd say they are both muse-worthy modles!

I realize that Renée Zellweger in Carolina Herrera is a rather safe choice for a "best of" list, but look at that color! I just love it, I can't help it.

Milla in Marni.

Perfect Oscar de la Renta.

These two get my vote on coolness factor alone... but I'd like to see Lou Doillon move about in this... it might not work out so well.

Chanel Iman looks charming in Zac Posen.

The Worst

Huh.

The dress is very nice, but Tyra looks SO crazy.

I don't think I need to get into what's wrong here...

I loath this silhouette.

I love January Jones in Mad Men...
but everyone should avoid dresses that create "tummy shine".

Emmy Rossum looks much too severe in this weird grey tube.

Kerry Washington is stunning... but I'm stunned at how bad this dress is.

There were plenty of good looking men... but these two need some serious help.

And Last But Not Least... The Dark Horse Category

So, I love MK... and I'm weirdly drawn to this Haute Barmaid look...

And I feel I should like this look on Daphne Guinness, but I'm not convinced.

Happy Cinco de Mayo!!

Happy May Day!

I'd love to be twirling ribbons and flowers about in a field somewhere! These little girls in their spring dresses are just too sweet. Hope you all are taking a bit of time out to appreciate Spring.
