Find of the Day!

I am totally impressed with these screen-printed textiles from New York based artist Scott Hill. He has been taking antique chairs and sofas and upholstering them in fabrics hand printed with text from poems and historical documents, and pictures of people like Marylin Monroe. I especially like the saturated indigo hues and relaxed feel of the pieces. They speak, but not too loudly.

Sienna...Again.

Sienna Miller must have the best publicist in the world. I mean it really takes talent and dedication to make such a shiny, Toon Town mountain out of the mole hill that is Sienna Millers talent and good looks. There simply isn't anything there. In fact the British actress/whatever has managed to be on the cover of American Vogue not once, but three times now! And for what?! In fact her first Vogue cover was so horrifying that I actually got into a discussion with three perfect strangers at the news stand about how awful it was.


And to cap it off she's now launching a fashion line with her designer sister Savannah. That's right! Another celebrity brand hits the racks! Aren't you thrilled? Not to mention ready to pony up the $500 bucks it'll cost you to purchase one of the silky little printed dresses in their fall line. Interestingly, the clothes totally remind me of her... over hyped, over priced, and quite frankly, pretty boring. ("Where have I seen that dress before?")
If you're determined to buy high priced celebrity designs I recommend looking to another pair of platinum haired sisters. Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen's line The Row contains all the sleek style, and mature fashion insight that is lacking in Sienna and Savannah Miller's Twenty8Twelve

Given those choices I'll take my Miller chilled and in a tall can please.

Back to (Style) School

While I adore reading about fashion, my actual exposure to the fashion world has admittedly been somewhat limited. And as such I have only ever read the names of my favorite houses and designers and very rarely hear them spoken aloud, thus leaving me to patch together my own muttered pronunciation of names such as Olivier Theyskens (pronounced Ty-skins) and Givenchy. The editors at Vogue, in all their knowledge, must have tuned in to this problem and have politely offered a solution. They will simply talk about the designers in a forum which everyone has access to, thus clearing up any confusion. While teaching the masses correct pronunciation may not have been the goal of these little spoken editorials, that is certainly my reason for listening in. As many times as it takes! Find of the Day

One of my favorite designers of the moment + one of my favorite sweater styles of all time = happy me! Also the sweater in question is long enough to wear with nothing underneath. I'm not totally sure how ol' Chris Columbus felt when he discovered the new(ish) world, but I'm feeling pretty great about 3.1.Phillip Lim and my find of the day.

The Key to My Heart

I totally have a thing for antique skeleton keys. I think this stems from reading too much children's lit where the characters find the old key that unlocks the door/chest/diary, to find the magical land/map/treasure, and that when they do (after some trial and error) they live happily ever after.
So I love this recent trend I'm seeing for including keys in everything from handbags to jewelry. And like everything, they go from pricey...

This One's for You Dad...

So, my father has a bit of a problem... he saves absolutely everything. Like when we first got a VCR he suddenly got this mania for recording everything on TV. We still have all the tapes. But don't get me wrong, my Dad didn't spend my childhood sitting in front of the tube, he also ran marathons (a concept that's totally lost on his progeny), and in honor of his feats of athletic ability he saved every damn pair of Nikes he ever ran a race in. We still have all the shoes.
Well, Nike sympathizes with this urge to preserve the past, and in that spirit is re-releasing some of the classic styles from the 70's in vintage colors and that slightly worn-in patina that we've come to be so fond of. So get some shoes, run a marathon, and save them for all time.

Michelle Williams is pictured today in Vogue's 10 Best Dressed of the Week list sporting a Jean Seberg haircut, the obligatory Rayban Wayfairers and a Built by Wendy mini dress that has been on my "to buy when you have the cash" list since it came out this spring. I absolutely adore this brand. Wendy Mullin can do no wrong in my book, and her reasonably priced hipster duds are spot on.


I am feeling very validated right now.

Under Cover

My favorite part of the Resort runways this year is the little cover-ups worn with the few swimsuits that were shown. Across the board the message seems to be that elegance and not a skimpy bikini is what will get you noticed by the pool.
From this super conservative look from Fendi...



to something a little sexier (but still covered) at Badgley Mischka

it's less about the suit and more about the accessories. A wide-brimmed hat, a pair of Jacki O. style sunglasses, and anything from a sheer mini dress to a cardigan and you're set! And since I bought my swimsuit for this summer at Target and not Barney's this is perfect for me! I can accessorize my little heart out and no one will be the wiser.

My favorite look is this one from Bottega Veneta

Just when i thought the cropped cardigan had become totally passe here it is done beautifully. And I adore the texture of the suit.

Pair it with a cropped cardi in a contrasting color, and a pair of huge sunglasses!
