For 2010 i am starting a new blog! I needed a new slate and I am pleased to report that my fiance Kelly is going to be joining me for this one.
I super encourage anyone who has been following this blog to switch over to the new one! I think the content is going to be really great with tons of inspiration.

MOCA

Mantis, Sam Francis

I'm excited to see this painting when the MOCA 30th Anniversary show opens on the 15th! I love looking at art with such an emotional use of color. mmm... blue.

rocker suede

I might be obsessed with suede. And the new vests for Fall from Hayden-Harnett are too perfect...
The second one reminds me of something one of the "band-aids" would wear on Almost Famous. So just in case you are tempted by the leather shorts that Elle says are going to be a staple for this coming season it might be good to look towards more flattering leather options!

model luv

I really love the new Miu Miu campaign for Fall. Just gorgeous fashion. And I'm enthralled with this new girl Hannah Holman. I thought she was adorable in the Summer Urban Outfitters catalogs...

but she's flawless in this ad.

Style Inspiration: Janelle Monae'

Love this girls look! The picture above of new artist Janelle Monae' is featured in the September issue of Elle (which is quite good btw, aside from a bit about leather shorts) and I was totally taken with her.
Saddle shoes!!! I love that they are back! I want to channel her with these shoes by F-troupe

Hot Acid

Acid wash jeans spotted in the fall '08 collection @ Topshop

So I originally balked at the sight of the acid wash jeans that came out last summer. They just look so... so 80's. And I still haven't gone out and purchased a pair for myself (nor am I likely to) but I have been able to reconcile myself to them and concede that they can look nice on women over the age of 16. Like almost anything else they can be made elegant and age appro with a good jacket and grown up accessories. In fact I think they will look a lot better this fall then they did this summer.

Acid wash at Balmain, Spring 2009

Elegant acid wash, street style.

So don't take that pair you bought at Urban Outfitters down to Buffalo Exchange just yet, there's still hope for them this coming season!

Cheap Thrills

Happy Monday!

I'm still sort of in a food coma from the most gyro sandwich I've ever had. Sure we had to drive to Northridge to get it, but it was honestly up there for the most delicious thing I've ever tasted in a pita, and also the size of two regular gyros. From this carb and lamb induced stupor I rise to give you two things that amused me this weekend...

Firstly, an amazing display of photography at the Getty by Jo Ann Callis

And secondly the winner of the Hemingway look-alike contest...

What more do you need, I ask you?

trend: cut-out wedges

I just got the new Urban Outfitters Catalog in the mail and I like that they featured more shoes and accessories. Fitting that the focus isn't on the clothes since the cover model isn't even wearing any... anyway. I love all the cut-out wedges!
Dolce Vita

Jefferey Campbell (i am especially covetous of these)

Deena & Ozzy
These are very much a trend for this summer, but will also look cute in the fall with colored tights peeking through!

lumière

I was glancing through a rather nice book entitled The Upset: young contemporary art, when i fell totally in love with this image by British artist Ray Caesar. I sort of feel like I'm floating there with her... delicious.

Favorite Couture Looks

Here are some of my favorite looks from the Fall 2009 Couture shows in Paris last week which are up now on Style.com .

It went from elegant construction...

to unabashed badassness at Givenchy

Dior revisited the New Look with marvelous results

I'm really drawn to the detailing of this coat
and it's so cool to see more emphasis on the waist
like on this dress at Christian Lacroix

I'm completely in love with the light, romantic feel at Valentino

And then there's Chanel... I was in raptures over this look.
In my book this is perfection. However

Karl Lagerfeld also managed to produce this little number
which actually sent a little chill of horror down my spine

I just... yeah... If you can find any redeeming qualities about this dress (other than the model, I love Magdalena!) I'd love to hear about it. I really can't wrap my little brain around this one! In fact thinking about it is making me tired. I think I'll go to bed. adieu!!

"come in to my parlor..."

At my new favorite store, the Gold Bug in Pasadena, pop-surrealism meets a neoclassical Wunderkammer and the result is dark, dreamy and thoroughly enchanting. If I had more dollars I would have made several purchases. As it is I will make several visits to admire all the little odds and ends that are so carefully curated.

Also!! I really want to go see the latest version of Oleanna by David Mamet that is playing right now at the Mark Taper Forum. I loved this play when I read it in college and I think Bill Pulman is perfect for the role of the professor. EEEk I hope I get to go!!

mixed prints

This picture from The Selby is amazing. I'm always so afraid of mixing prints, well this man has... courage. And a truly inspirational beard.

XOXO

Well, I've given in. In a moment where I desperately needed distraction from reality (even if that reality is fashion design) I checked out Gossip Girl from the library. I'm now on disc 2 a week later and I'm addicted. Gossip Girl has not yet spawned the crack-fiend like addiction that Sex&theCity did when I finally got around to watching that, but it's running a close second.

With that in mind I was delighted to see Taylor Momsen, the sugary sweet little sister on Gossip Girl, featured on Garance Dore's blog today looking like a little bitty Courtney Love.

Clearly she is trying to steer away from her Upper East Side prep school look that she sports on screen. But if you are trying to steer towards it but just don't have the cash, consider one of these "It Bag" totes from Nosideup on PapernStitch.

Let's keep it at least slightly real ;)

Louvre Love

This simple screen print dress I just found on Etsy may quickly move from the "want" to the "need" category the more I'm looking at it! Perfectly whimsical yet wearable.

"la sigh..."

As you may have noticed my blog has been sorely neglected of late. School has got the best (and most mediocre) of me, and my blog has taken a back seat. But the good thing about fashion is there is always something new to perk up my spirits.

Lover the label
has released their latest lookbook online and it's totally captivating and utterly modern. The collection is titled White Moon Rising, and it's delicate moodiness captures my sentiments exactly.

This editorial from American Vogue in 2002 is one of my all time favorites. I love the model Maggie Rizer, she has such a great natural beauty. And the styling is perfection!

Gamine

Main Entry:
1ga·mine
Pronunciation:
\ga-ˈmēn, ˈga-ˌmēn\
Function:
noun
Etymology:
French, feminine of gamin
Date:
1889
1 : a girl who hangs around on the streets
2
: a small playfully mischievous girl

"An elfish young woman. Audrey Hepburn in Roman Holiday
was the archetypal, unforgettable, adorable gamine" -philip howard

The New York based boutique OTTE has really captured this look by stocking a tightly curated selection of brands like Claudie Pierlot and Catherine Holstein. Below are some looks that caught my eye as inspiration for a modern gamine.
Jumpsuit by Cathrine Holstein

Blouse by See by Chloe

Cropped pant by Helmut Lang

Day Dress by Fremont

Jumpsuit by Ports1961

Jacket by Smythe
